Patients should not use any skincare products that include certain active ingredients such as peroxides, retinoid/tretinoin, BHAs/AHAs such as SALICYLIC acid, lactic acid, glycolic acid, or any anti-aging, acne or bleaching products for one week prior to their peel appointment and 7-10 days post appointment.
Chemical peeling is the process of applying chemicals to the skin to create a controlled form of injury: the chemicals destroy the outer damaged layers to a specific skin depth. The goal is to stimulate new epidermal growth and collagen production while improving surface texture and appearance.
Chemical peels can be used to reduce the appearance of signs of aging, such as lines, wrinkles, and hyperpigmentation. Chemical peeling is also very helpful for the treatment of acne and acne scaring.
You are not a good candidate if
Use of Accutane 6 months prior to the Jessner Peel, during the treatment, and 6 months post peel
Allergy to aspirin, milk, salicylic acid, lactic acid, and/or resorcinol
Active cold sores, sunburn, or severe asthma
Lupus
Eczema
Rosacea
Psoriasis
Pregnancy
Chronic skin disorders and dermatitis conditions
WHAT TO EXPECT POST APPOINTMENT:
After the treatment of the peel, the skin may appear white and frosted, this will subside within a few hours. Patients may experience a warm, stinging sensation as the peel activates on the skin. Following your chemical peel, your skin will feel tight and dry and will have a slight redness. It may also be sensitive. The peeling process will begin after 48 hours and should last anywhere from 7-10 days. During that time, your skin may darken and look more damaged before the new fresh skin is revealed. You should avoid strenuous activities that cause excess sweating during that time. Once all the old damaged skin has peeled away, you will be left with younger, healthy, glowing skin.
